Interview With Beats For Legends Beat Production (CUTS Exclusive)
*This is a CUTS Exclusive Interview with a Global Beat Production Company.*
What is the name of your Production Company, who is involved and where are you guys from?
Halfbreed: We are Beats For Legends, created by me, Halfbreed and supported by 3 major producers. Members involved are Exile, Banditry, AzzA and Halfbreed, we are all taken from all over Soundclick and the industry and looked at as the best producers on the net for business ethics and versatility within the Hip Hop community. As for location, our group is pretty international. We originated from Miami but, AzzA lives in New Zealand, while Halfbreed lives up in Seattle, WA.
How long have you been in the Music Industry, and what impact do you want to have on Hip-Hop?
Halfbreed: Well, I’ve been doing this for 8 years, and AzzA has been within the music industry for about 5 years. We are all dedicated to the same cause which providing industry standard beats to artists who may not be able to afford them. We have a $20 subscription plan where we basically produce an artists WHOLE album for $20. AzzA has composed remix’s for Bizzy Bone and Stat Quo and has received awards for beats he has made for Interscope. He has also opened a door for New Zealand artists such as Raiza, Bikardi and K2N, who have opened for major artists i.e. Chamillionare and Young Sid.
If you could get signed to any record label of your choice, where would you go?
Halfbreed: Well, if someone was to throw us a contract, we’d definitely be willing to check it out. But as of now, we don’t really need to be signed. Right now, we’re building an EMPIRE with 30,000-80,000 plays DAILY and 10,000 page views DAILY. And that is pretty impressive.
Would you say that the “Road to Achievement” has been a tough one thus far?
AzzA: Very tough, Mountains of effort goes into being successful. The process between producing within a car garage to producing within a professional studio is a hard one, You need to think twice all the time, you need to market your own work effectively and with passion. Everything you do needs to be for the love of music, Ive been hit up a number of times by producers who talk Money Money Money. Quite obviously without passion for what you love, you dont get rewards.
Halfbreed: We have racked in a lot of cash, and have received THOUSANDS of unique visitors to our site. but due to our humbleness, we don’t run around throwing our decimals in peoples faces.
Who are some of your influences in Music and what is the driving force behind your inspiration?
Halfbreed: Influences? AzzA is my main influence hahaha. I mean, everybody on my team. But honestly, when I sit back and really want to draw inspiration, the LAST thing I do is listen to rap or hip hop beats. My WORK is Hip Hop, so I have to switch it up. I usually gather my ideas by listening to rock/metal bands such as Tool, Disturbed, and many more!
AzzA: My Influences? wow lets think about that one.. Alot of people think Scott Storch fell off, And even if the dude did, I still believe his talents and skills need to be acknowledged. Swizz Beats has had a huge influence on
my production also, he is a good producer and emcee in my opinion. That opinion can be challenged however haha
Now, everybody has an opinion about the state of Hip-Hop, what is your take on it?
AzzA: Damn, Dont even get me started on this but since you have, Ima get started. The killer of hip hop was Soulja Boy, The Serial Killer currently is… Any producer who takes an application and spends 5 minutes on it, makes what they think is hip hop on it, and releases it saying that they are the best producers in the game. All of these producers are, Excuse the language, Fu*king up the game in all aspects. Sure, make beats with no passion and with money on your mind, Just don’t get in the way of real producers who have done the real hustle for many years within the game.
Halfbreed: Hip Hop is doing bad right now actually man. Some of the music on the radio is so bad that I seriously get depressed. Why exactly would we put WACK music on the radio? Hip Hop ain’t doing good, but the underground is flourishing more than ever before!! That’s why we’ve decided to make most of our money through underground rappers without big incomes. We want to help YOU make it famous for CHEAP… $20 to be exact, with our $20 FULL ALBUM PRODUCTION deal!
Just out of curiousity, who do you think is the dopest chick out there?Halfbreed: Dopest chick? Man you know I never kiss and tell. The dopest chick I’ve ever come in contact with? Her name is Carmen Barillaeu and she’s a local, so you probably never heard of her. She’s DOPE though, like.. Dope…
AzzA: Nikki Montana! her flow kills most woman emcee’s out there right now
Once you actually get “Out There”, in the Above The Surface world, who do you see yourself kicking it with? And what do you think you image will be at that point?
Halfbreed: Kickin it with? Man we gonna be kicking it with the stars, Dr. Dre is gonna be smoking chronic in my crib!! But honestly, the only people I want to chill with involve the underground. I want our company to soar through the underground so we can avoid the WACKNESS of the mainstream.
AzzA: I will be the same as i am now once i leave the underground, however my style will continue to be rough rugged and raw, AzzA will continue to take on the best and the biggest. Beats For Legends will continue to mold hiphop within the Underground and Commercial industry.
